Projektbeskrivelse
In general the Ph.D. project is a comparative study of project management in the filmmaking and the construction industries. In short I wish to study how project plans are part of the negotiation of shared meaning (Weick, 1995, Wenger, 1998) in film and construction projects.
In practice we often experience a large difference between the planned and the realised project process. The reason for this is that projects, which operate under conditions of high uncertainty, are difficult to manage through planning (Christensen & Kreiner, 1991).
In practice uncertainty is handled in negotiations among project members resulting in the construction of a shared interpretation of the conditions and opportunities of the project. Human actors, material artefacts, and social institutions are integrated parts of these negotiations, and the construction of shared meaning.
The purpose of my project is to study how these negotiation processes are carried out, what kind of relations we are talking about, and what roles project plans and tools play in the negotiation process. Empirically the study is based on case studies of film and construction projects, with a comparative analysis in mind.
